Today we will talk about if Internet if connecting people through social media and disconnecting them from hearts.
The Internet is becoming the town square for the village of tomorrow.
Said
Bill Gates
It’s
true, as the Internet gave us the unique ability to connect any user
with any other user, according to any quality possible —
relationships, beliefs, viewpoints, goals, problems, identity, or
interests. Along with these, internet also helps us in providing
useful information and knowledge, as well as helps in learning.
During
these times of pandemic, the internet has provided us with work from
home, learning aids, entertainment, connecting with each other via
video calls and text.
For
example, using email and chatting software, connecting with family
and friends who are far away geographically is easier than calling or
writing letters.
People
around the world, have come together online, to share information,
communicate, support each other, and to oragnize events and meetings.
Several
organizations and communties, which might have been ignored by
people, have also become popular via the Internet.
However,
critics of the Internet believe that Internet use, while connecting
more people virtually, makes people more isolated socially, because
the more time they spend online, the less time they spend interacting
in real life. They believe that electronic communication using mail
and chatting softwares, is not as in-depth or reliable as
communication in-person or on the voice calls.
Does
the internet degrade
family and friendly relations?
On
the one hand, many extol the internet’s abilities to extend our
relationships — we can contact people across the ocean at the click
of a mouse; we can communicate
with our friends and family without actually
being with them.
But
there are several side effects of excessive internet usage too,
Sleep
deprivation
Inability
to stick to schedule
Excessive
use of social media can cause the fear of missing out
are
just to name a few,
This
is caused because of two major reasons,
First,
With the increase of availability in resources online, people have
started spending more and more of their time online, each day. That
means, the time they used to spend with their family, friends, or
neighbours, has changed to the time spent online.
Second,
the internet is splitting people into two separate worlds: online and
offline. People’s online relations are getting so separate from
their existing relationships that people’s “life on the screen,”
is getting entirely different from their “real life.”
In
conclusion, I would like to say that as the excess of everything has
its merits and demerits, and internet too has the same, so we should
try our best to avoid crossing the line of excession of internet, as
it could take several things which we value the most in our lives,
including time, our friends and families away from us.
